On the morning of April 6, 2026, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), in collaboration with Hue People’s Committee and ETC Design Consultancy, convened a working session to present solutions for upgrading Terminal T2 at Phu Bai International Airport. The initiative aims to develop the airport into a smart, green, and modern aviation hub, in line with digital transformation roadmap and sustainable development objectives.
The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, Deputy General Director of ACV, and Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Vice Chairman of the Hue People’s Committee, with participation from regulatory authorities, technical experts, and consulting partners.

Overview of the conference on “Phu Bai Smart Airport” solutions toward digital transformation and sustainable development
The development of the Phu Bai Smart Airport model is positioned within the broader implementation of the Party and Government’s strategic directions on national digital transformation, digital economy development, and smart cities. The overarching approach focuses on synchronized digital infrastructure with data as the core foundation; accelerating the adoption of digital technologies in key infrastructure sectors, particularly aviation; enhancing service quality for citizens and businesses through smart, convenient, and digitized solutions; and aligning digital economic growth with green and sustainable development goals.
Based on these orientations, the working session identified five core pillars underpinning the comprehensive transformation of airport operations:
- Establishing an integrated operations control center to enable centralized, flexible monitoring and management;
- Applying biometric technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deliver a seamless, secure, and touchless passenger experience;
- Expanding digital services to personalize customer journeys while enhancing non-aeronautical revenue streams;
- Optimizing energy usage and implementing environmentally friendly solutions, targeting Net Zero emissions;
- Developing a unified data platform, ready for deep integration with Hue’s smart city ecosystem.
Leaders of ACV and the Hue People’s Committee emphasized that the conference represents not only the introduction of technological solutions, but also a critical step in standardizing the overall system architecture and shaping a future-ready airport operating model in the digital era. This will serve as the foundation for a phased implementation roadmap, from data infrastructure development to full integration with the local digital economy ecosystem, targeted for completion by 2027.
As a key aviation gateway in Central Vietnam, Phu Bai International Airport has been selected as ACV’s pilot smart airport model. Beyond technological application, the project represents a strategic transformation in governance, operations, and service delivery.
The outcomes at Phu Bai will provide an important practical basis for standardizing and scaling the smart airport model across Vietnam’s airport network, enhancing competitiveness, attracting international passengers, and contributing to regional socio-economic development.
The conference concluded with strong consensus, reaffirming the commitment of ACV and the Hue People’s Committee to translating national policies into concrete actions, gradually positioning Phu Bai as a smart, modern, and sustainable aviation gateway, and a new growth driver for Hue and the Central region.
